I wondered the eating habbits of Turkish students in Ankara. Wheraqe do they go and what do they like. So, i went around universities asking students about the best spot they like on campus. There are many universities around Ankara but i just asked people from the major universities. I asked the students of Bilkent, Başkent,Hacettepe, Gazi, METU, Ankara about their preferences on campus. First to start with Bilkent students, it was a shocking answer of me but the majority prefered Speed Cafe. The reason why the majority of the students liked Speed Cafe was because of the music they played during the lunch breaks.  In Başkent University majority of the students’ prefered Teras Cafe, which actually has a really nice view. The view of the cafe was the reason why people voted most for it. In Hacettepe University they prefered, Melon Café, which is an interesting choice. Melon Cafe may not have the best view in Hacettepe but it has the best food for sure. Gazi University is very fragmented and has many campuses around Ankara. Such as the Gölbaşı, Dışkapı and Demetevler Campuses. So, it was hard for me to reach a common denominator but overall many students agreed that they tend to eat in Bahçelievler. Middle East Technical University students preferedÇatı, which would also be my personal preference. It is one of the best places I have been to in Ankara. As I asked the majority answered Çatı without thinking twice. Ankara University is also very fragmented like Gazi. So, it was very hard to find their preferences of food in their University. Overall it was quite an experience seeing all those universities. And I mostly had the chance to dine in some of these restaurants and I have to say that, these students are like gourmets. Thank you for reading and cheers…

Cafe Stockholm is one of the popular student spots in Tunalı. The owner is a Swedish citizen with Turkish roots. It has the best balcony in Ankara, where you can drink your coffee while watching over the people passing through Tunalı. It is not only the product they serve but it is the quality of their service that makes this place special. This café is one of the favorite spots for studying. It coffee is one of the best in Ankara but its tea is the most unique one you can drink. The food in Café Stockholm is nice but its desserts are better. It’s a quite spot and its self-service. The more you go the nicer it gets. Sipping your coffee while studying in café Stockholm is a unique experience and I urge everyone in Ankara to try it. Until next time cheers…

El Paso is one of the most popular students joints in Ankara. It is chain restaurant, and it started in Bahçelievler. It is a known fact that the food is very delicious but that is not the only reason why it is popular. When it first opened, El Paso offered discounts its %40 discount, dragged many hungry students to the chain. Soon after the first joint, the owner opened a second one near the first and, so did the tradition begin. For students accommodated in Bahçelievler, El Paso is a must to visit. The food is nice, the atmosphere is cozy and its customers are young students generally. One of its greatest perks is that, El Paso offers free Lig TV and other football matches in big screens. A very interesting western interior design with Mexican and Turkish food fused into each other. What can a student wish for during the finals...

Bigos is one of the best restaurants in Ankara that serves many students everyday. I call it the Real American experience. Their meals are really big and tasty. It is always crowded and there is always a que which you have to wait for to be seated. So, if you are very hungry at that moment this is not the best place but if you have time Bigos is a good choice to make. They offer American and Mexican food generally but it is possible to find the famous fish and chips. My personal favorite is the Cashew flavored chicken, because it is very tasty and affordable. Their prices are average but the quality of the food is really good. They offer really nice coctails for people who are interested. Keep on tuned for more food in Ankara cheers...

The kebab

Bahçelievler is home to many students in Ankara. In this part of town, there are many pubs and nightclubs. However, when you get hungry there is only one place you should head to, which is Antep Şiş Kebap. I have been here many, many times. I crave this kind of food at night when im tired of hanging out with my friends in this part of town. At first, this place may seem like a dirty cheap restaurant but actually it is very popular. When you arrive there the owner or the one and only waiter takes care of you really quick. You will probably reacieve your order in 5 minutes. This place is very famous for its chicken kebeb. It is true that, this place is really cheap. After a funny chat with the owner i realized that this place is the best spot in town to dine. The price of the chicken kebab was 5 Turkish Liras, but the owner changed it to 6 Turkish Liras from this month on.  The owner, told me that his customers insisted him to increase the price of the kebab.
So, he increased the price from 5 Turkish Liras to 6 Turkish Liras which is funny. The owner also told me that they have never changed their prices since 2010, which is the date the restaurant opened. If you are passing by this restaurant any time soon i advise you to eat here. Until next time cheers...

This week the student joint i visited, is actually a place i go regularly. Berins Cafe was opened 2 years ago and has become a studying heaven for students. The season or weather does not matter when it come to Berins. At night it is always full of students chatting and studying. The question is, why students like Berins Cafe. Berins Cafe is a minimalistic cafe which offers fresh products. The turkish coffee is amazing and it comes with all kind of aromas. The food is not bad, and it is fresh. The pricing is in accordence with a students budget, this means that it is generally cheap. Students come in the morining to study till the night during their finals. Since, Berins Cafe has generally a silent environment, which enables students to study efficiently. I would like to wrtie about it more but, i want to allow my pictures to tell you why it is the favorite spot of students in Çayyolu. Until next time, cheers.....

If its night in Bilkent, there is only one Hero to call for food. That person is Esat himself. A man devoted in serving every person with the same quality of beef and meatball sandwich. I have passed by his van probably 100 times and always wondered why it was so crowded with students. I have visited his van recently and twice in a row because the food was really delicious. I have had to chance of taking pictures of the sandwich in the making. There have also been foreigners who advised this joint in their website.
As you can seen from the pictures. We had a delightful conversation about why he is so successful at what he does. He replies that "i cook with love". I knew that already and wanted to ask why he made the best sandwiches in Bilkent. He laughingly replies that "everything i buy is freash and quality". After eating my first sandwich i started believing him too. I asked why so many students like you so much and come to your food joint? He says "Bilkent is a town of students and not only students from Ankara but also from different cities. I don't only serve students, i am well known among the working class people around Bilkent.". It was obvious that the students adored him. I have heard many stories about Esat. Sometimes when the students of Bilkent don't have a car he askes people around if they could deliver the sandwiches to the campus so that the students can sleep with a full somatch. He is considered one of the best things about being a Bilkent University student.

The out come of his work is this awsome sandwich. Something i enjoyed a lot while i was eating it. Believe me or not but this was one of the best sandwiches i have ate in my life. But there is more than the food to this place. This joint has other features than only food. After habing finished my sandwich nothing makes me more happy than a cup of tea.

Esat has served the students of Bilkent for nearly 20 years now. And the he has one motto that kept him doing this job. Also this motto allowed him to attract more attention from customers everyday. The motto is that "Prices are forgetable but quality always stays in mind". I also agree on his motto. If you ever want to give Esat a try or read other peoples comments i advise this website for this location and reviews. My dear readers until next time cheers....

He has a grill in his van, this is where the magic happens. He cooks his meat with a traditional coal grill which you get hit by the amazing smell immediately. As you can see from the pictures, he cooks them very delicately.  He includes many kind of vegatebles in his sandwich. He does not only sell these ofcourse, he also sells many other kinds of sanwiches which vary from chicken to the traiditional turkish sucuk.

There is nothing better than a warm traditional turksih tea after a meal and Esat has brought to Bilkent the most creative idea of making tea available at his customers a hot tea on the cold streets of Bilkent. I don't believe that there is somthing more to say about this friendlly man but believe me there is. It has been a wide travelling story that the place he used to park in the previous years belongedto a government office. One day they banned him of parking there but the head of the office also enjoyed his services and made a call for the allowence of him to park in that area. Well still it is a rumor but it might also be true.

I have been living in Ankara for 14 years. What I have learned from my experiences is that students in Ankara are very interested in quality food. There are 18 universities in Ankara, which makes it a city dwelling of hungry students. What I want to do in my blog is to highlight some of those places. I want to go around universities in Ankara and find out where and what students are eating. Also i will be going to cafes where students prefer to study and obviously drink coffee. It is not just the food that im interested in but also the atmosphere and the music played in these restaurants and cafes. I will post pictures of the restaurants and the food, to give you an insight. While reading my comments and reviews on the food and the atmosphere, i will also provide you the music played in these places. So, that you will be able to experience these restaurants and cafes a little bit more detailed. I will be posting my first review soon, until then cheers...
