I wondered the eating habbits of Turkish students in Ankara. Wheraqe do they go and what do they like. So, i went around universities asking students about the best spot they like on campus. There are many universities around Ankara but i just asked people from the major universities. I asked the students of Bilkent, Başkent,Hacettepe, Gazi, METU, Ankara about their preferences on campus. First to start with Bilkent students, it was a shocking answer of me but the majority prefered Speed Cafe. The reason why the majority of the students liked Speed Cafe was because of the music they played during the lunch breaks. In Başkent University majority of the students’ prefered Teras Cafe, which actually has a really nice view. The view of the cafe was the reason why people voted most for it. In Hacettepe University they prefered, Melon Café, which is an interesting choice. Melon Cafe may not have the best view in Hacettepe but it has the best food for sure. Gazi University is very fragmented and has many campuses around Ankara. Such as the Gölbaşı, Dışkapı and Demetevler Campuses. So, it was hard for me to reach a common denominator but overall many students agreed that they tend to eat in Bahçelievler. Middle East Technical University students preferedÇatı, which would also be my personal preference. It is one of the best places I have been to in Ankara. As I asked the majority answered Çatı without thinking twice. Ankara University is also very fragmented like Gazi. So, it was very hard to find their preferences of food in their University. Overall it was quite an experience seeing all those universities. And I mostly had the chance to dine in some of these restaurants and I have to say that, these students are like gourmets. Thank you for reading and cheers…
Cafe Stockholm is one of the popular student spots in Tunalı. The owner is a Swedish citizen with Turkish roots. It has the best balcony in Ankara, where you can drink your coffee while watching over the people passing through Tunalı. It is not only the product they serve but it is the quality of their service that makes this place special. This café is one of the favorite spots for studying. It coffee is one of the best in Ankara but its tea is the most unique one you can drink. The food in Café Stockholm is nice but its desserts are better. It’s a quite spot and its self-service. The more you go the nicer it gets. Sipping your coffee while studying in café Stockholm is a unique experience and I urge everyone in Ankara to try it. Until next time cheers…
El Paso is one of the most popular students joints in Ankara. It is chain restaurant, and it started in Bahçelievler. It is a known fact that the food is very delicious but that is not the only reason why it is popular. When it first opened, El Paso offered discounts its %40 discount, dragged many hungry students to the chain. Soon after the first joint, the owner opened a second one near the first and, so did the tradition begin. For students accommodated in Bahçelievler, El Paso is a must to visit. The food is nice, the atmosphere is cozy and its customers are young students generally. One of its greatest perks is that, El Paso offers free Lig TV and other football matches in big screens. A very interesting western interior design with Mexican and Turkish food fused into each other. What can a student wish for during the finals...
This week i wanted to ask students some questions about, the food they like and where they hang out in Ankara. They all had different preferences. Some paid the bill separately, and some by themselves. For more insight here is my Q&A. Until next time cheers...
This week the student joint i visited, is actually a place i go regularly. Berins Cafe was opened 2 years ago and has become a studying heaven for students. The season or weather does not matter when it come to Berins. At night it is always full of students chatting and studying. The question is, why students like Berins Cafe. Berins Cafe is a minimalistic cafe which offers fresh products. The turkish coffee is amazing and it comes with all kind of aromas. The food is not bad, and it is fresh. The pricing is in accordence with a students budget, this means that it is generally cheap. Students come in the morining to study till the night during their finals. Since, Berins Cafe has generally a silent environment, which enables students to study efficiently. I would like to wrtie about it more but, i want to allow my pictures to tell you why it is the favorite spot of students in Çayyolu. Until next time, cheers.....
I have been living in Ankara for 14 years. What I have learned from my experiences is that students in Ankara are very interested in quality food. There are 18 universities in Ankara, which makes it a city dwelling of hungry students. What I want to do in my blog is to highlight some of those places. I want to go around universities in Ankara and find out where and what students are eating. Also i will be going to cafes where students prefer to study and obviously drink coffee. It is not just the food that im interested in but also the atmosphere and the music played in these restaurants and cafes. I will post pictures of the restaurants and the food, to give you an insight. While reading my comments and reviews on the food and the atmosphere, i will also provide you the music played in these places. So, that you will be able to experience these restaurants and cafes a little bit more detailed. I will be posting my first review soon, until then cheers... |
